Short, step-by-step guides for one job at a time. For every field, rule, and edge case, see the full Migration Guide instead.

Connect Square and run your first Product Catalog migration

10-15 min
  1. From the dashboard, click Connect Square and sign in with an owner-level Square account - Square's own login screen requires this to authorize a third-party app.
  2. On the Getting Started screen, choose which data types you want to migrate (Products, Customers, Gift Cards, and/or URL Redirects). You can add more later from Settings.
  3. Open Location Mapping and match each Square location to the Shopify location it should feed inventory into - this has to be done before running Products.
  4. On the Products page, review Field Mapping (Title, Price, and Variants are always on) and Taxonomy Mapping (auto-suggested Shopify categories - review before saving).
  5. Click Migrate to Shopify. Watch live progress on the dashboard - pause or cancel anytime without losing what's already been processed.
  6. Once it finishes, download the report from Migration History to see exactly what was created, updated, skipped, or failed, and why.

Mapping Square locations to Shopify locations

5 min
  1. Open the Products page and find the Location Mapping section - it's required before your first product migration will pick up any inventory.
  2. For each Square location listed, choose the matching Shopify location from the dropdown. Locations left unmapped mean products from that Square location migrate with 0 stock everywhere.
  3. Save your mapping. If you add or map a location later, click Sync Inventory afterward - Squarify re-checks every already-migrated product and activates stock wherever a location is now mapped.

Scheduling an Inventory Sync for a future date

5 minMigration + Sync
  1. From the Products page, click Manage Inventory to open the Inventory Sync modal.
  2. Choose which mapped Square locations to include - you don't have to sync every location every time.
  3. Switch to "Schedule for later" and pick a date and time up to 14 days out, in your local timezone.
  4. Confirm the schedule. It fires automatically in the background - you don't need to keep the page open - and its progress card is labeled "Scheduled run" so you can tell it apart from a manual one.
  5. You can cancel a pending schedule anytime before it runs from the same modal.

Migrating gift cards without emailing every customer

5 min
  1. Open the Gift Cards page and find the "Link to Customer Records" toggle - it's on by default.
  2. Know the tradeoff first: linking a gift card to a matching Shopify customer can trigger Shopify's own gift-card notification email if that customer has notifications enabled. This is a Shopify platform behavior, not something Squarify can suppress.
  3. Turn "Link to Customer Records" off to migrate every eligible gift card unlinked - no customer match, no email.
  4. Optional: turn on "Add customer details to the gift card note" first, so the Square customer's name, email, and ID are still saved on the card's note field for manual reference later - even with linking off.
  5. Click Migrate Gift Cards. Only ACTIVE cards with a balance above $0 are eligible - the rest are skipped automatically.

Uploading product weights from a spreadsheet

10 minMigration + Sync
  1. In Square Dashboard, go to Items & Catalog and export your items (CSV or Excel).
  2. Open the file and keep a "Weight" column (numeric, optionally with a "Weight Unit" column) and/or an "Online Sale Price" column - a row only needs one of the two.
  3. For a large catalog, delete every other column and remove blank rows first - Squarify only reads Token, Weight, Weight Unit, SKU, and Online Sale Price, so trimming the rest can shrink the file 10x or more (files are capped at 20MB).
  4. In Squarify, go to Settings -> Product Weight Migration and upload the file. Rows match by a hidden tracking value set when the product was originally migrated, falling back to SKU if that's missing.
  5. If your file has an Online Sale Price column, a toggle appears to also update price - it's off by default since it changes a live selling price.
  6. Preview the matched variants, then click Apply Weight Updates. Re-upload anytime to correct values later.

Reading and troubleshooting a migration report

5 min
  1. Open Migration History (linked from the dashboard) and find the run you want, then click View Report - or download it directly as an Excel file.
  2. Every row shows a status - Created, Updated, Skipped, or Failed - plus a plain-language reason for anything that wasn't a straightforward create.
  3. For Product Catalog runs, use the view dropdown above the item table to switch between Product Catalog, Inventory, Discounts, and Collections - the downloaded file has all four as separate sheets.
  4. A "Skipped" row is usually expected behavior (already migrated, or nothing actually changed), not an error - check the reason column before assuming something's wrong.
  5. For a "Failed" row, the reason column states exactly what Shopify or Square rejected, so you can fix it at the source and re-run - re-running never duplicates what already succeeded.
